Vietnam: footwear exports up by 10.5%
The Asian country continues to step up its footwear exports, while it absorbs some of the business moving away from China. In 2018 Vietnam's exports crossed the 16 million US dollars threshold and growth reached double digit
Two countries received 45% of Vietnam's total footwear exports in 2018: 5 817 million US dollars' worth of footwear were headed to the US and 1 492 million US dollars had China as the destination. Belgium, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, UK, Rep. Korea, France and Canada complete the top 10 of Vietnam's main export markets in 2018 (in value terms),
According to the same source, in 2018 Vietnam exported 883 million pairs of sports shoes. Exports of leather footwear totalled 282 million pairs and textile footwear reached 75 million pairs.
According to the latest edition of the World Footwear Yearbook (AVAILABLE HERE), in 2017 Vietnam produced 1.1 billion pairs of shoes (a share of 4.7% in worldwide production), taking the third position as the largest producing country. In 2017 Vietnam was the second largest exporter of footwear with a 7.1% share (1.0 billion pairs) behind China (9.7 billion pairs; 67.5%).
