The UITIC Congress is the think tank of the industry
This is the belief of Mr. Yves Morin, President of the UITIC, when reflecting about the 20th edition of the International Technical Footwear Congress, taking place in Porto, in May
The International Union of Shoe Industry Technicians (UITIC) is an organisation which aims at developing technical knowledge in the footwear industry, in particular by organising international conferences on a regular basis and by taking the initiative in setting up the exchange of information between its members, exclusively in the field of technology.
UITIC's main activity is the organisation of an International Technical Conference which tackles the latest technical issues: automatic sewing, computerised management, new materials, quality, training, design, amongst other relevant themes.
The next edition of the UITIC Congress will take place in Porto from the 16th to the 18th of May. Two extra days with factory visits are schedulled for the 14th and 15th.
The theme of the 20th UITIC Congress, From Fashion to Factory: A New Technological Age, was selected to reflect the current moment of constant technological change impacting the worldwide industries and to reflect on its influence in the footwear industry.
In an interview published at the event's website (READ ALL HERE), Mr. Yves Morin, President of the UITIC and CEO of the CTC Groupe, talks about the 20th edition of the International, the meaning of the theme “From Fashion to Factory” and highlights the importance of participating in the 20th UITIC Congress.
When questioned about the implications of the theme of the 20th UITIC Congress, Mr Morin believes this will be the perfect background to discuss the most pressing themes impacting the industry in the current days: "Behind this expression "From Fashion to Factory", I wanted to highlight the growing role of fashion in our industry, fashion determines an important part of the success of the companies in most countries of consumption. The historic rule of our profession that says "A shoe must first put the eye on, before fitting the foot" has never been so relevant. On the other hand, the globalization and digitization of our economy mean that productivity must increase to deliver ever more fashionable and ever faster products to consumers. This leads to major changes for manufacturing and therefore for the organization of factories right now! Those are the industrial transformations that we will discuss during the 20th UITIC Congress, with the innovations that will accompany them".
In Mr. Morin's view the reasons to attend the Congress are clear: "This is a real "Think Tank" of the profession". The congresses organized by the UITIC is the oldest congresses on the footwear industry, the idea was born in 1972 and since then, their success has only grown, reinforcing their interest. "UITIC conferences allow all actors in the profession, be they manufacturers, distributors, stylists or researchers, first to discover the new concepts and new ideas of the sector, and also to take knowledge of the latest market information. But these UITIC congresses are also an opportunity for the various decision-makers in the sector to meet every two years and build relationships. At the time of the "all internet" these meetings face to face are very important: we can improvise an appointment, meet an expert or a personality, and even initiate new business".
