Sustained trend in Spanish exports
Despite the difficult international context, which has negatively impacted competitor countries such as Italy, Spain continues to record growing export figures in both volume and value terms
In the first eight months of the year, Spain exported a total of 124.6 million pairs of shoes, worth 2.43 billion euros. These figures reflect an increase of 11.0% in volume terms and 7.4% in value terms, as compared to the same period of last year. The data also shows that the average price per pair has declined to 19.48 euros from 20.14 euros.
These figures show a sustained trend for Spanish footwear exports, especially given the nuanced performance in 2023 and the multiple challenges facing the industry, including declining consumption, inflation and a complex international climate stemming from current geopolitical events. According to the World Footwear 2024 Yearbook (more information available HERE), last year, the country’s exports and imports showed a slight decline in volume but increases in value.
Main Destination Markets
Italy was the main destination market for Spanish footwear exports between January and August, with a share of 20% (494.0 million euros). France, Germany, and Portugal followed with a share of 17% (405.1 million euros), 10% (235.7 million euros), and 9% (213.4 million euros), respectively. The ranking is completed by Poland and the United States with a share of 6% and the United Kingdom and the Netherlands with a share of 3%. All other countries accounted for 26% of the total value of exports.Image Credits: bespokeunit.com
