Slight increase in the attendance of foreign buyers at Pitti Uomo
The first data on the final turnout at the men’s fashion fair in Florence indicates a slight increase in the number of foreign buyers, but a decrease in the number of Italian ones
Pitti Uomo, held from the 11th to the 14th of June at the Fortezza Basso in Florence, recorded a total attendance of 11,500 buyers, with 46% (5,300) coming from abroad. Although this is a significant figure, it falls short of the 20% growth recorded in last year’s June edition. On the other hand, in line with earlier expectations, the number of Italian buyers fell by 7%.
“The confirmation of international buyers - those who make the market and indicate the direction - are important indicators for exhibitors, they give confidence and perspective. The number of Italian attendees, however, does not confirm the results of 2023, they decreased by 7%, but I must say that this was widely expected, considering the closure of many shops in the last two, three year, and the less than dynamic trend of internal consumption”, commented Raffaello Napoleone, CEO of Pitti.
France, the US and the UK once again proved to be some of the most important foreign markets present at Pitti. But the organisation also highlighted the “growth of Central and Northern Europe”, including Germany (with a 15% increase in buyers to 680), the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, and the Baltic countries, as well as “the surprising increase in Eastern Europe”, including Poland, the Czech Republic, Serbia, Hungary, and Bulgaria.
Napoleone also noted that Asian markets are continuing their recovery trend, highlighting the presence of newcomers such as Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and Mongolia, “and the exploits of key markets such as Turkey and Kazakhstan”.
