Shoes that smell like lemons
Lemon Jelly is a new brand born within Procalçado, a group of companies with 4 decades of experience in the footwear industry
After 40 years designing and producing injected soles for all around the world, the management of Procalçado decided it was time to take a risky move and evolve to a new type of business. They have decided to use the accumulated know how and used their imagination and creativity to add footwear to their business of soles production.
José Pinto, the brand’s CEO, stated: “It was a very simple process for us, because we were used to work with the injection technology for almost 40 years a, and the most logical step was to keep developing in a sustainable manner… And in the end, it was “only” a matter of developing more complex molds".
With the new footwear line, the group believes they can bring something new to the market, and recently Lemon Jelly received an award from COTEC, the Portuguese Business Association for Innovation, as recognition for its innovative products. Currently, Lemon Jelly, exports 70% of its production to roughly 15 countries.
As worldwide consumers pay more attention to alternative types of products and as the materials evolve, the change in the product value’s perception is changing as well, and these are no longer seen as cheap products, but as products rich in design and innovation.
In terms of future, one element is of higher importance for Lemon Jelly and Procalçado: the development of materials with new characteristics which make footwear more comfortable for people wearing it.
A world of fantasy, joy and color, and a constant will to work in new themes for each collection, like using transparencies and patterns, is the key of success for Lemon Jelly when producing boots, sandals, shoes, galoshes and accessories, all distinctive by their tempting smell. In the brand’s own words, this results in: “shoes that taste like the sweetest sweets: A feast of ice cream, jelly beans, gummy bears and popsicles. They sound like giggling and feel like a cuddle. They smell like Lemon Jelly”.
