Scotch & Soda Northern Europe will not reopen
Following the declaration of bankruptcy on the 12th of June, the administrators have announced that the northern branch of Scotch & Soda will not be reopening
Scotch & Soda has announced that it will not be re-opening its retail business in Northern Europe, with all physical stores closing immediately. There has been no agreement between the administrators and key stakeholders to keep the stores open to sell the clothing inventory.
The Northern Europe retail operation was declared bankrupt on the 12th of June due to logistical problems and continuing losses. However, the company’s wholesale activities are not included in the bankruptcy.
It should be added that while this decision affects retail operations in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and Austria – a total of 92 stores and 721 employees – not every store is effectively expected to close. For example, the administrators are considering a possible relaunch in Austria and Germany.
Meanwhile, in a bid to “strengthen key retail markets and drive digital growth quickly and strategically”, Bluestar Alliance has chosen US-based United Legwear & Apparel Europe as the licensee for Scotch & Soda's e-commerce business. The company has also been responsible for the brand’s wholesale business in Europe since 2023, following Bluestar Alliance’s rescue of the brand in March of last year.
