Peru extends anti-dumping duties on Chinese footwear
The National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi) announced the extension of the anti-dumping duties for imported footwear from China until 2026
To protect the local production, "Indecopi extended the enforcement of the anti-dumping duties imposed on imports of all types of footwear (not including sandals) with rubber or plastic uppers, and natural leather with origin in the People’s Republic of China, for an additional period of five year", stated Indecopi in a statement.
The anti-dumping duties entered into force on the 30th of November 2021, and with this extension the measure will be valid until the 30th of November 2026.
The Peruvian government is seeking to maintain "fair competition between national and imported products, avoiding damage to the national industry". This extension was decided following a study carried out by Indecopi that assessed the impact of Chinese footwear on the Peruvian economy.
