Pakistan’s footwear exports continue with the declining trend
In the first eleven months of the current financial year, Pakistan registered sales abroad of 12.21 million pairs of shoes. Value of exports, totaling 99.49 million US dollars, was down by 17.51%
Quantities of exported footwear in May increased compared to similar period in 2015, going from 1.31 million pairs to 1.47 million pairs. In value terms, exports of footwear declined from 11.81 million US dollars in May 2015 to 10.17 million US dollars in May 2016, according to data recently released by PBS (Pakistan Bureau of Statistics).
Leather footwear, representing 79.15% in total value of exported footwear, increased its volume of exports (+33.83%), despite a decline in value (-4.86%), going from 8.46 million US dollars in May 2015 to 8.05 million US dollars in May 2016.
During the period July 2015 - May 2016 Pakistan exported 12.21 million pairs of shoes, valued at 99.49 million US dollars. This compares to exports of 12.18 million pairs valued at 120.61 million US dollars in similar period in 2015 and reflects declines of 0.07% in quantity and 17.51% in value.
Leather footwear sales, representing the largest share in footwear exports in the period (80.70%), reached 80.29 million US dollars and went down by 20.12% during the first eleven months of the year (quantities down by 9.20% during the period).
According to the World Footwear Yearbook, in 2014 Pakistan exported 16 million pairs of footwear valued at 131 million US dollars.
