Pakistani full year footwear exports rise in both value and volume

In the twelve months to June 2023, the Asian country saw its footwear exports increase by 13.74% in value and 35.50% in volume, as compared to the previous fiscal year

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), from July 2022 to June 2023*, the country exported 25.52 million pairs of shoes, worth 178.6 million US dollars, up by 35.50% in volume and 13.74% in value, on a comparable basis to the same period in the prior year.

In particular, in the past twelve months, Pakistan shipped 10.23 million pairs of leather shoes, generating 142.1 million US dollars, which reflects an increase of 26.38% in volume and 14.07% in value, as compared to the same months of fiscal 2021-2022. It should be noted that this segment accounted for almost 80% of the total value exported.

The other footwear segment also registered positive results, with exports growing in the fiscal year 2022-2023 by 43.86% in volume (15.15 million pairs of shoes) and 13.13% in value (35.11 million US dollars) over the last fiscal year. Only the canvas footwear segment suffered a decline of 33.15% in volume and 2.39% in value in this period, on a comparable basis to the previous fiscal year.

Leather Exports Decline

Between July 2022 and June 2023, leather manufacturers' exports amounted to 577.4 million US dollars, down by 7.03%, as compared to the same period of the last fiscal year. In addition, Pakistan's exports of finished leather in this twelve-month period generated 167.6 million US dollars, which reflects a decline of 19.45%, on a comparable basis to the same period of 2021-2022.

Pakistani Footwear Industry

Pakistan's footwear industry is the 7^th largest in the world, employing about one million people in the country, says the World Footwear 2022 Yearbook (more information available HERE). Focused mostly on its internal market, it finds in the US and some European and Arab countries its main destination markets. China is Pakistan's main supplier.
