Pakistan: footwear and leather exports in surging mode
In the first 4 months of the current fiscal year, footwear exports increased by 12.02% in value, generating 47.71 million US dollars. Leather manufacturers exports grew in value by 8.43%
According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), from July to October 2021, the country exported leather goods at the value of 206.94 million US dollars, on a comparable basis to the revenue of 190.86 million US dollars reported in the same period of last year. The growth reflects an increase in value of 8.43%.
During the mentioned period, revenue exports of tanned leather totalled 61.85 million US dollars. There was an increase in both volume (up by 81.95%) and value (up by 41.84%), as compared to the first four months of the prior fiscal 2020-2021.
Footwear
Pakistan sent abroad 5.29 million pairs of shoes, generating 47.71 million US dollars. This reflects an increase of 5.24% in volume and 12.02% in value.
Pakistan Footwear Industry
The Pakistani footwear industry, mostly focused on its domestic market, is the 7th largest in the world. According to the World Footwear 2021 Yearbook (AVAILABLE HERE), in 2020, the Asian country produced 483 million pairs of shoes, which reflects a world share of 2.4%. Last year, footwear exports decreased by 8% and, for the 3rd consecutive year, imports also decreased. Although Pakistan destination exports are widely spread geographically, it sources predominantly textile footwear from China.Pakistan’s fiscal year runs from July to June.
