Owner of Lavoro invests 5 million euros to boost productivity
The Portuguese manufacturer of professional footwear ICC – Footwear Industry and Commerce will invest 5 million euros to increase its productivity by 20% and double sales
The aim is “to prepare the company for the future by expanding facilities, improving working conditions and productivity, investing in new technologies, such as robotisation, digital cutting and automatic sewing”, said the President of ICC, Teófilo Leite, to the Portuguese newspaper Dinheiro Vivo.
According to the president of ICC, the company is already moving forward with the robotic injection of soles in the new Póvoa do Lanhoso unit, reusing the waste generated in production. This will enable “a lower consumption of raw materials and a reduction of the product's environmental footprint”. The new equipment for this unit is expected to arrive in June, and production should start in July. Consequently, around fifty new jobs will be created in Póvoa do Lanhoso, of which around 30 are already in service and being trained.
It should also be noted that the renovation of the Guimarães factory, an old project of the company, will begin this year – its area will be doubled to 10 thousand square metres and the photovoltaic panels will guarantee 50% of energy autonomy.
“At the moment, we produce around three thousand pairs a day. The goal, with these investments, is to reach five thousand pairs”, stresses Teófilo Leite, underlining that “it means having a production capacity of over one million pairs per year”.
