Nike launches Web3 platform .Swoosh
The US-based sportswear giant has launched a new web3-enabled platform called .Swoosh. The company intends to make it home to the brand's virtual designs and digital community
With its own domain (welcome.swoosh.nike) to ensure it is a safe and trusted place, this platform will enable its members to learn about and collect virtual creations, which are typically interactive digital objects like virtual shoes or jerseys, and, sometimes, to unlock access to physical product or events. "We are shaping a marketplace of the future with an accessible platform for the web3-curious. In this new space, the .Swoosh community and Nike can create, share, and benefit together", commented Ron Faris, GM of Nike Virtual Studios.
Currently in beta version, registrations to join in will open later this month. Meanwhile, for the remainder of the year, the company will also work to grow the community, prioritizing local communities that it already supports with its diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, starting with the US and selected countries in Europe, "skill-building with them so that they’re ready to participate".
Furthermore, Nike has already revealed that it will debut its first digital collection, "shaped by the platform's community", in 2023. The members of the .Swoosh platform will then be able to enter a community challenge to win an opportunity to co-create a virtual product alongside the brand. "Those winners can earn a royalty on the virtual product they help co-create", added the company.
