Nike plans new shoe factory in Indonesia
According to Indonesia Investments, a local investment and development company, the sportswear giant is consolidating its presence in the country, setting a new manufacturing facility
Adis Dimension Footwear, the local Indonesian unit of the US-based multinational footwear and sportswear manufacturer Nike Inc, announced a new 60 million US dollars factory in Majalengka (West Java).
The new facility, aimed at producing for the Nike brand and its growing global market, is set to have a production capacity of 10 million pairs of shoes per year.
Indonesia Investments is citing Mr. Harijanto, Chairman of Adis Dimension Footwear, announcing the plant as a long-term project. The same source indicated that while the plant is under construction, human resources training has already started.
Currently, Adis Dimension Footwear owns a factory in Tangerang (Banten, Java) with a production capacity of 20 million pairs per year. Total production from this factory is exported. The same source indicates that total employment at the Banten unit reaches nearly 8 500 people, which produced around 12 million pairs of shoes in 2014, with half of raw materials being internally sourced.
