New video: How to take better care of leather shoes
APICCAPS has launched an awareness-raising video on how to take better care of leather footwear. The aim is to promote its durability and smarter purchasing choices
“We urgently need to rethink our habits. It’s essential to buy less. It’s essential to buy less, but to invest in better quality and more durable materials... such as leather”. This is the motto of APICCAPS's new promotional video, titled “How to Take Care of Your Shoes”, part of the Bioshoes4all project, which is supported by the Portuguese Resilience Programme.
The Portuguese Footwear, Components, Leather Goods Manufacturers' Association emphasizes that “good quality leather shoes can last forever”, so, “we just need to take better care of it”. With this in mind, the video features several steps that can be taken to ensure that footwear can last a lifetime.
To sum up, first, “change your shoes regularly”, which “will allow the moisture to dry out before you put them on again”. The use of wooden moulds is also important for preserving and stabilising shoes. On the other hand, if the weather is bad, it is vital to protect the leather shoes. As important is the “regular use of a shoehorn”, so that wearers can “preserve the heel counter, keeping your shoes permanently structured”.
The Portuguese Association also recalls that it's essential to clean and moisturise leather shoes on a regular basis. “Remove dust with a brush, wipe with a cotton cloth with a leather conditioner and finish with a polish to fill in small scratches and restore colour” are some of the pieces of advice. Finally, “if your shoes are more damaged than you'd like, don’t throw them away. In the hands of a professional, they will come back to life”, concludes APICCAPS.
