New art installation at London’s Galeria Melissa
The plastic shoes, with candy fragrances have achieved recognition all over the world, and now a new art installation in their store in London puts them on the spotlight
The origins of the brand go back to seventies, when Mr Edson Matsuo as the creative director and head of research and development. The brand sells millions of shoes across 50 different countries worldwide and has partnered with famous fashion designers Vivienne Westwood, Karl Lagerfeld, Gareth Pugh and even architech Zaha Hadid to create special editions of their shoes.
With flagship stores in NYC, São Paulo and London (called Galerias), the brand focus highly on the stores design. Selling Melissa’s products is an aim of the stores, however the spaces end up being platforms for art installations.
London, the most recent galleria of the brand, has a new art installation devised by acclaimed Brazilian designer Muti Randolph and brought to life by renowned architectural and retail design practice, IDL. MJ Lighting provided the lighting solutions for the in-store art installations.
The art installation is inspired by light, movement and colour, with 21 illuminated acrylic shoe boxes, each containing one of the iconic shoes. The shoe boxes hang from the ceiling and are illuminated by Applelec’s LED Light Sheet.
