Mexico with increase in footwear exports
The estimates were presented by CICEG, the Footwear Industry Chamber at Guanajuato
According to Héctor Lázaro Gómez, Vice President of International Trade at CICEG (Cámara De la Industria del Calzado del Estado de Guanajuato), in 2014 the country exported 26.62 million pairs of shoes, increasing 2% from the previous year.
According to the same source, in 2011 Mexico exported 21.9 million pairs, going up to 24.2 million pairs in the following year (a growth rate of 10%). In 2013 Mexican footwear exports reached 26.7 million pairs, increasing 9% from the previous year. CICEG estimates that 2014 registered a new increase with exports going up by 2% totaling 26.62 million pairs.
In terms of destination markets, the US continue to lead, buying roughly 20.7 million pairs, which represents 75.4% of total exports. To this quantity should amount a total value of 468.99 million US dollars, the same source indicated.
Japan, Canada, France, Colombia, Guatemala, Uruguay, Panama, Hong Kong follow, in a list of approximately 80 countries buyers of Mexican Footwear.
The World Footwear estimates that in 2013 Mexico was the 9th largest producer of footwear, with 245 million pairs and a world share of 1.1%.
