Merrell announces multi-year sustainability initiative
The Wolverine Worldwide-owned brand is kicking off the 'This is Home' campaign with the launch of a multinational product takeback and resale programme named Merrel ReTread
The Merrell ReTread programme will save 300 000 pairs of footwear from landfills in “our own backyards”, inspiring people to protect nature by promoting a more circular economy: consumers can send back their Merrel footwear to be repaired and refurbished for resale, broken down for use in new products, or recycled for alternative uses.
“We believe the outdoors is a place that people can always come home to, and that is why we are committed to preserve and protect the places we recreate. The Merrell ReTread program is a firm step in our sustainable commitment, enabling us to extend the life of our Merrell footwear and giving people more options to minimize their environmental footprint”, commented says Chris Hufnagel, Global Brand President of Merrell.
To participate, consumers can visit retread.merrell.com to obtain a free return label to ship their used Merrell footwear to ReCircled. Once the shipment is collected, they will receive a 20 US dollars off promotion code to purchase new Merrell footwear or apparel. The programme was launched in the US and Canada, but the brand is expecting to expand it globally, starting in the EMEA region later this year.
The ReTread program is one of the initiatives that Merrell intends to promote through its multi-year 'This is Home' initiative, which will focus on digital, social and connected TV while showcasing that its products are made of sustainable materials.
