Maison Margiela appoints Glenn Martens as creative director

The OTB-owned luxury brand has found a successor to John Galliano, who left the label in December. Glenn Martens is the new creative director at Maison Margiela
“I feel extremely honored to join the amazing Maison Margiela, a truly unique house that has been inspiring the world for decades”, said the Belgian designer Glenn Martens, who will remain as creative director of the also OTB-owned denim label Diesel, a role he took on in 2020.
Martens is credited with boosting Diesel’s Gen Z customer base, with 16–25-year-olds now accounting for 36% of sales. In addition to Diesel, he spent 11 years as creative director of Y/Project, joining the brand in 2010 and taking on the top design role in 2013.
“I have worked with Glenn for years, I have witnessed his talent, and I know what he is capable of. After Martin, who gave life to the Maison and its unique Artisanal line, and John who made it the most cutting-edge couture house in the world, I am proud to have a third couturier at its helm”, commented Renzo Rosso, chairman of OTB Group.
The OTB Group acquired a majority stake in Maison Margiela in 2002 and worked alongside the founder until he announced his retirement in 2009. It remained collectively designed, until Galliano’s appointment in 2014.
