Leather industry in Pakistan asks for double shifts
The Pakistan Leather Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PLGMEA) has urged the government to exempt export-oriented units in Punjab from lockdown restrictions on Saturdays besides allowing them to work in double shifts
According to several reports on the news, Syed Nadeem Abbas, President of PLGMEA, said the implementation of social distancing during industrial operations will be easier to implement if double shifts go ahead, as this will allow maintaining the size of the workforce to avoid massive unemployment. Allowing operations to take place on Saturday is also a claim,
Mr. Abbas argued this is key to allow exporting companies to complete their pending orders, and warns that given the current circumstances the country's exporting industry may suffer up to 30% losses.
