Journeys launches resale programme
The footwear retailer, owned by Genesco, has teamed up with the online resale platform thredUP to launch the ‘Journeys Second-Hand’ initiative, aimed at a more environmentally-conscious generation
Powered by thredUP's Resale-as-a-Service, the ‘Journeys Second-Hand’ platform will enable customers to shop second-hand apparel directly from the retailer's website and resell used items for Journeys shopping credit that can be used both online and in-store. According to Journey's Group President Mario Gallione, this programme will bring more convenience to its target Gen Z customers, as well as support the company’s sustainability efforts.
“We're picky about our partnerships because we know that teens are pretty picky about where they shop, as well as what they choose to wear”, pointed out Gallione. “thredUP was the right partner for us to enter the resale market based on its ability to fulfil the needs of our core teen consumers and offer the brands, styles and trends they see on social media. But beyond adding value to our online capabilities, thredUP's platform also supports our larger corporate ESG initiatives”, he added.
“We're thrilled to see Journeys, a footwear retailer, leverage resale as a complimentary offering to its core business. Journeys is the retailer of choice for so many of today's young consumers, many of whom value individuality and sustainability. We're proud to power a resale solution for a company that believes in the future of second-hand and is taking meaningful steps towards a more sustainable future”, commented James Reinhart, CEO of thredUP.
