JD Sports to acquire Finish Line
The UK-based sports retailer has entered into an agreement to buy Finish Line, an American retail chain dedicated to athletic shoes, apparel and accessories. The new owner will win instant presence in the US
“This is a landmark day for JD and will be transformational for the business. It immediately offers a major presence in the US, a clear next step to further increase our global scale”, Executive Chairman Peter Cowgill commented.
Finish Line is a large retailer of premium multi-branded athletic footwear, apparel and accessories in the US, with a network of more than 555 branded retail stores across the country and online presence. By acquiring such player, JD Sports enters into one of the largest sportswear market with strength, as the acquisition, gives JD Sports a network of 1 500 stores worldwide.
This acquisition follows other initiatives to expand overseas, followed by JD Sports in recent years, gaining a presence in France, Spain and South Korea.
The deal, which requires the approval of both companies’ shareholders, is expected to be complete in the summer.
