Innovation, sustainability and young talent shine at Futurmoda’s latest edition

The latest edition of Futurmoda gathered footwear professionals worldwide to promote discussions on key industry topics. The next edition will occur on the 15th and 16th of October 2025
The 53rd edition of Futurmoda, on the 12th and 13th of March 2025, concluded successfully, reinforcing its status as an important trade fair for the footwear and leather goods industry. Held over two days at IFA-Fira Alacant, the event attracted over 5 thousand visitors and over 300 exhibiting companies.
A strong focus on sustainability and technological advancement defined this year’s edition, with the Futurmoda Lab Talent competition highlighting the work of emerging designers and fostering new connections between young talent and industry professionals.
International Presence
The fair saw significant international participation, drawing professionals from key markets such as Italy, France, Portugal, Poland, Germany, the Netherlands, India and China. Spanish companies also showed strong engagement, reflecting the event’s relevance in the domestic market.
Machinery & Technology
A significant highlight of this edition was the increased presence of machinery and technology in footwear manufacturing, which occupied 15% of the exhibition space. Innovations in automation, 3D printing, laser cutting, sole injection and process digitalisation were prominently displayed.
Sustainability
Sustainability was a recurring theme throughout the event, with exhibitors showcasing eco-friendly materials and production processes. Advances in biodegradable materials, recycled textiles and water-efficient manufacturing techniques highlighted the industry’s shift towards more responsible practices. Many companies also presented innovative solutions for reducing carbon footprints, aligning with broader environmental objectives.
Initiatives
The Expert Forum remained a central feature of Futurmoda, offering discussions on key topics such as artificial intelligence in footwear, process optimisation, circular economy principles and new EU regulations on waste and packaging. A particularly anticipated session was the Spring-Summer 2026 trend presentation, which provided insights into upcoming colour palettes, materials and design directions.
Another initiative was the Futurmoda Lab Talent competition, which successfully connected young designers with established industry figures. It underscored the importance of fostering new talent and encouraging innovation, ensuring the future competitiveness of the footwear industry.
Looking Back
Despite economic challenges in the broader market, the positive turnout and engagement at Futurmoda demonstrated the industry’s resilience and adaptability. The event was a hub for networking, knowledge exchange and business development.
54th Edition
Futurmoda 54th edition will occur on the 15th and 16th of October 2025, again at IFA-Fira Alacant.
