German shoe and leather exports rise amid uncertainty
Sales for German manufacturers in the Textile Care, Fabric and Leather Technologies sectors grew from January to August 2023, despite the decrease in orders, says VDMA
According to the German Machinery Association VDMA, in the first eight months of the year, sales in the textile care, fabric and leather technologies sector grew by 20% in real terms, as compared to the same period of last year. This growth includes a 61% year-over-year increase in sales from Germany and a 9% rise in sales from abroad.
At the same time, new orders for the period fell by 17%, on a comparable basis to the same months of 2022, with domestic and foreign orders decreasing by 7% and 20%, respectively.
VDMA also reported that associated shoe and leather technology manufacturers registered a 19% growth in exports, reaching 37 million euros from January to July 2023. Its main destination markets were the US, Mexico, and France.
Germany Footwear Industry
Germany ranks as the second-largest importer and the fifth-largest exporter in the world despite being only the 27th producer, shows the World Footwear 2023 Yearbook (more information available HERE). In 2022, both imports and exports from Germany continued to grow to reach new record levels. Germany's imports predominantly originate from Asian countries, while its reexports are primarily directed towards other European nations with Poland and France leading the way.Source: textiletechnology.net
