Gap to close 19 stores in the UK and Ireland
The San-Francisco headquartered fashion group said it has plans to close 19 stores in the UK and Ireland next month as part of a restructure process with the aim to return to growth
The retailer is proposing to close the shops when their leases end in July. The decision will leave the group with around 50 other standalone and outlet stores in the UK.
Gap did not clarify how many jobs would be impacted by the decision to close the stores and has added that it is continuing to assess its current portfolio as part of the strategic review started last year.
The company said that it is "keen to maintain a presence in Europe" but this could mean it is achieved through a major focus on online sales.
