Footwear industry in Brazil creates 17.8 thousand jobs
According to Abicalçados, the Brazilian Footwear Industries Association, the national sector’s companies created a total of 17 800 new jobs in the first quarter of 2022
Still referring to the same source, in March, national factories created 4 770 jobs, accounting for more than a third of the total generated by the local manufacturing industry in that month. In total, in the first quarter of the year, the footwear sector created 17 800 jobs, resulting in a total of 284 000 people employed across the country, an increase of 11.5%, compared to similar period in 2021.
Haroldo Ferreira, Executive president of Abicalçados, highlights that the positive data indicates the recovery of activity, especially in the exports side. Between January and March of this year, the Brazilian footwear industry exported 320.6 million US dollars, 65.8% more than in the same period in 2021: “The footwear sector responds quickly to economic stimuli. This year, in which exports have been the engine of growth and, consequently, of job creation in the activity”, commented the head of Abicalçados.
