Footwear exports in Pakistan with mixed results
In the first ten months of the year, a decline in volumes exported was registered (down by 8.9%). At the same time the value of exported footwear increased by 12.9%
Footwear exports in April declined in quantity and value compared to similar period in 2014. Quantities exported declined from 1.51 million pairs to 1.40 million pairs, loosing value from 10.92 million US dollars in April 2014 to 9.84 million US dollars in April 2015, according to data recently released by PBS (Pakistan Bureau of Statistics). This performance was mainly driven by the significant drop in exports of leather footwear, from 995 thousand pairs to 659 thousand pairs (-33.8%), with a value decline of roughly 19.1% (from 9.10 million US dollars to 7.35 million US dollars).
In April, the canvas and other footwear categories registered increases in both volume and value.
During the period July 2014 – April 2015 Pakistan exported 11.50 million pairs of shoes, valued at 108.60 million US dollars. This compares to exports of 12.63 million pairs valued at 96.18 million US dollars in similar period in 2013 and reflects a decline of 8.9% in quantity and an increase of 12.9% in value, according to the same source.
Leather footwear sales, representing the largest share in footwear exports (84.7%), reached 92.0 million US dollars and went up by 14.4% during the first ten months of the year (quantities were up by 3.1% during the period).
During the same period, sales abroad of canvas footwear increased by 94.2% in value.
According to the World Footwear Yearbook, in 2013 Pakistan exported 14 million pairs of footwear valued at 108 million US dollars.
