Footwear exports in Pakistan return to growing path
In the first eleven months of the year, Pakistan registered sales abroad of 12.74 million pairs of shoes, declining 10.92%. Value of exports was up by 11.90% reaching 120.34 million US dollars
Quantities of exported footwear in May declined compared to similar period in 2014, going from 1.68 million pairs in 2014 to 1.49 million pairs in 2015. In value terms, exports of footwear increased from 11.37 million US dollars in May 2014 to 11.65 million US dollars in May 2015, according to data recently released by PBS (Pakistan Bureau of Statistics). Leather footwear, representing 76.56% in total exported footwear, presented frozen quantities (+0.27%) and declining value (-2.76% from 9.17 million US dollars in May 2014 to 8.92 million US dollars in May 2015). This performance reveals a recovery from declines registered in April 2015.
During the period July 2014 – May 2015 Pakistan exported 12.74 million pairs of shoes, valued at 120.34 million US dollars. This compares to exports of 14.30 million pairs valued at 107.54 million US dollars in similar period in 2013 and reflects a decline of 10.92% in quantity and an increase of 11.9% in value.
Leather footwear sales, representing the largest share in footwear exports in the period (83.76%), reached 100.79 million US dollars and went up by 12.51% during the first eleven months of the year (quantities down by 0.55% during the period).
During the same period, sales abroad of canvas footwear increased by 66.53% in value.
According to the World Footwear Yearbook, in 2013 Pakistan exported 14 million pairs of footwear valued at 108 million US dollars.
