Ferragamo Group fights counterfeiting
The Italy-based group has announced thousands of actions carried out in 2015. A new microchip will start to be embedded in Ferragamo shoes and leather goods with an aim to make counterfeiting more difficult
In 2015, the company’s anti-counterfeiting efforts, which are focused especially in China and on the Internet, led to the interception and blocking of approximately 91 000 advertisements for counterfeit products which were removed from online auctions, and the recovery and/or cancellation of 140 domain names and illegal websites, mainly managed by Chinese players.
The Salvatore Ferragamo Group’s activities have also led to the seizure and destruction of over 12 500 counterfeit products and the Chinese customs authorities’ confiscation of more than 12 400 counterfeit goods leaving the country.
“Over the past few years we have intensified efforts to protect the brand and our customers. In 2015, we further expanded the number of e-commerce sites that we monitor”, commented Ferruccio Ferragamo, Chairman of the Salvatore Ferragamo Group, adding: “On the Chinese market, we have continued and ramped up our offline checks, targeting trade fairs and resellers in particular. Furthermore, it is with great satisfaction that, in China, we completed the challenging process for recognition as a well-known brand, which is key law enforcement tool that will enable us to save significant amounts of time and money in our battle against counterfeiting”.
In addition, beginning with the Pre Fall 2014 collection, microchips (RFID Tags) will be inserted into the left sole of almost all Salvatore Ferragamo women’s shoes, making it possible to track the shoe. The NFC Tag cannot be counterfeit and it cannot be seen inside the shoe. The aim of using this technology is to guarantee product authenticity by proving the product’s origin and making it possible to track the shoe with certainty, giving the Group better control in the fight against fakes.
This project has been extended to men’s shoes from the Pre Summer 2015 collection and men’s and women’s small leather goods, luggage and women’s bags beginning with the AW 2015 collection.
