Dr. Martens global creative director steps down after a decade with the company
Dr. Martens Creative Director Darren McKoy is stepping down from his position after a decade with the footwear company. No replacement has yet been announced
Dr. Martens global creative director Darren McKoy has announced his departure from the brand to “embrace new opportunities and creative challenges”. “It wasn’t an easy choice, as you can imagine, but I feel now is the right time to close this amazing chapter and start writing the next”, he said on LinkedIn.
“Exactly 10 years to the week, I joined the brand at a time when it was ready to take bold risks. With an amazing set of passionate people—both long-standing and new—true brand ambassadors who shared an unwavering belief in its potential, we helped transform the business from a circa 136-million-pound company to a 1-billion-pound powerhouse”, he said.
McKoy joined the UK-based footwear company in January 2015 as the global category manager for footwear. He was then promoted to global product and merchandising director in 2017, and creative director in 2021. Before, he worked at Asics, VF Corp. and adidas.
While no replacement has been announced, a Dr. Martens spokesperson told Footwear News: “His passion for Docs, and his drive to support the brand’s growth across all markets has been valued by everyone, and we wish him the very best in his new endeavours”.
The announcement comes as Ije Nwokorie is set to take over as CEO following the departure of former CEO Kenny Wilson, who said he would step down at the end of 2024. Nwokorie was most recently chief brand officer at Dr Martens.
