The British footwear brand has announced a partnership with The Boot Repair Company to create a brand-new repair service. It has also launched a recycled leather collection and resale platform
With over 120 years of experience, The Boot Repair Company will resort to the same machines, methods and materials used to create new pairs of Dr Martens to repair old ones, offering over 10 different services from sole replacements and stitch repairs to zip and eyelet replacements. To access the service, customers simply need to visit the Repair Service page on the brand’s website.

“Whilst we pride ourselves on the durability of our products, we know that our wearers purchase our shoes and accessories to be worn day in and day out, making it impossible for them not to experience general wear and tear”, said a Dr Martens spokesperson. “As a brand, we care about the longevity of our silhouettes, and we know our customers do, too, so launching our repair service felt like a great way to give customers the option to breathe new life into their well-worn Doc’s”, he concluded.

As for the recycled leather collection, it comes after Dr Martens' participation in tech company Gen Phoenix’s 18 million US dollars funding round last year. As a result, the brand has developed the Genix Nappa line, which will feature recycled leather remakes of three Dr Martens styles: the 1460 Lace-Up Boot, the 1461 3-Eye Shoe, and the 2976 Chelsea Boot. Founded in 2007, Gen Phoenix calls itself the first recycled leather company at scale.

Meanwhile, Dr Marten’s resale platform uses Archive’s technology, allowing customers to buy used boots, shoes and bags, which are repaired and restored before being offered for sale online (Fashion Dive).
