Donatella Versace is stepping down after 27 years at the creative helm of the house founded by her brothers. Now as Chief Brand Ambassador, she will focus on supporting Versace’s philanthropic and charitable endeavours and will continue to be a global advocate for the brand.
“Today’s announcements were part of a thoughtful succession plan for Versace. Since 1997, Donatella has led the creative vision for the House of Versace and played an integral role in the company’s global success. Donatella will be assuming the role of Chief Brand Ambassador and will continue to champion the Versace brand and its values”, said John D. Idol, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Capri Holdings.
Dario Vitale will take on the role of Chief Creative Officer from the 1st of April, the company announced. He joins Versace from Miu Miu, where he was previously design and image director. “Championing the next generation of designers has always been important to me. I am thrilled that Dario Vitale will be joining us, and excited to see Versace through new eyes”, commented Donatella Versace.
She added: “I want to thank my incredible design team and all the employees at Versace that I have had the privilege of working with for over three decades. It has been the greatest honor of my life to carry on my brother Gianni’s legacy. He was the true genius, but I hope I have some of his spirit and tenacity. In my new role as Chief Brand Ambassador, I will remain Versace’s most passionate supporter. Versace is in my DNA and always in my heart”.
The news comes amid media reports that Capri Holdings, which also owns Michael Kors and Jimmy Choo, is close to selling the Italian label, with Prada Group emerging as the main interested party.
