Declining footwear exports in Pakistan
In the first three months of the new financial year, Pakistan registered sales abroad of 2.84 million pairs of shoes. Value of exports was down by 26.97% reaching 26.13 million US dollars
Quantities of exported footwear in September declined compared to similar period in 2014, going from 1.22 million pairs to 0.88 million pairs. In value terms, exports of footwear declined from 9.96 million US dollars in September 2014 to 5.92 million US dollars in September 2015, according to data recently released by PBS (Pakistan Bureau of Statistics). Leather footwear, representing 70.17% in total exported footwear, presented declining quantities (-44.4%) and declining value (-49.5% from 8.23 million US dollars in September 2014 to 4.16 million US dollars in September 2015).
During the period July 2015 – September 2015 Pakistan exported 2.84 million pairs of shoes, valued at 26.13 million US dollars. This compares to exports of 3.56 million pairs valued at 35.79 million US dollars in similar period in 2014 and reflects declines of 20.25% in quantity and 26.97% in value.
Leather footwear sales, representing the largest share in footwear exports in the period (84.50%), reached 22.08 million US dollars and went down by 30.53% during the first three months of the year (quantities down by 13.14% during the period).
During the same period, sales abroad of canvas footwear increased by 51.85% in value.
According to the World Footwear Yearbook, in 2013 Pakistan exported 14 million pairs of footwear valued at 108 million US dollars.
