Decathlon’s investment arm to bring sustainable fashion innovation technology to Europe
Decathlon Pulse has partnered with unspun to expand the use of 3D weaving technology across Europe, with a focus on reducing waste and promoting sustainable, locally-produced fashion with minimal inventory
“We are thrilled to team up with unspun. This partnership will enable Decathlon to reduce waste within the manufacturing process and strengthen our commitment to sustainability. By leveraging the potential of 3D weaving, we are working to revolutionise the garment manufacturing process and offer consumers customised, recyclable, and locally-produced products”, commented Franck Vigo, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Decathlon Pulse.
Decathlon Pulse has partnered with unspun, a fashion-tech company, to bring 3D weaving technology to Europe. The VegaTM technology transforms traditional manufacturing by weaving semi-finished products directly from yarn and minimising waste in the production process.
Decathlon Pulse, the investment arm and incubator of Decathlon, will act as an industrial partner to expand the reach of unspun’s technology across European markets. The aim is to deploy VegaTM machines and promote local, sustainable and low-inventory production on the continent.
The collaboration includes an investment and a multi-year offtake agreement extending through 2030. The specific terms of the deal remain confidential. This announcement follows unspun's recent successful Series B funding round.
Excited about the partnership, Walden Lam, CEO and co-founder of unspun, said, “Decathlon has been a great partner from the very beginning. This collaboration enables us to provide apparel products that have been produced in a more sustainable way to mainstream customers in Europe. Collectively, we are contributing to carbon neutrality objectives on millions of garments in a bid to help the fashion industry reduce waste from the supply chain”.
The technological capabilities and vision of unspun have landed the company on America’s Top Greentech companies 2024 by Time magazine, Vogue’s 100 innovators list, Newsweek’s Climate Change Innovators, TIME’s Best Inventions, and Fast Company's World-Changing Ideas.
