Decathlon to open 20 stores in Argentina

The France-based sporting goods retailer plans to open 20 stores in Argentina by 2026. The move marks Decathlon’s return to Argentina after more than two decades of absence
According to Infobae, the first two stores will open before the end of the year, in the North Zone of Greater Buenos Aires and in the city of Buenos Aires. However, Decathlon aims to be present in the country’s main cities by 2026.
This move, which is the result of a strategic alliance with Grupo One, led by Manuel Antelo and married couple Sabine Mulliez and Pedro Aguirre Saravia, marks Decathlon’s return to Argentina after an absence of more than two decades. The retailer first entered the Argentine market in 2000, but closed its doors shortly after the economic crisis of 2001-02.
Decathlon will try to position itself as a leading option in terms of price and quality, as all its products are imported. However, the question remains as to how it will be able to adapt its prices to the local market, given the appreciation of the exchange rate, which makes products more expensive in the country compared to other markets in the region.
