COVID-19 pandemic adds to job’s descriptions and fuels new hires
Businessinsider is quoting HR and staffing firm Adecco who confirms that retailers are hiring people to take temperatures and enforce social distancing
Extra cleaning measures, managing the capacity inside the store and checking temperatures are now extra tasks commonly found in retail stores, adding to the worker's job description. If, often, these tasks are simply added to the existing employees' daily routines, in some instances, new job descriptions are focusing on those specific tasks. Many companies are looking for "safety specialists", Adecco confirms, and while many employers might have thought of these as temporary positions, currently many are looking into it as a more long-term necessity.
Companies will also expect more from these new hires, then to just use a thermometer. Customer service skills will be key as these staff will be interacting with people constantly.
Adecco also confirmed there was a huge increase in retailers seeking grocery pickers and workers to help with curbside pickup while much of the US was under stay-at-home orders in March, April, and May.
After the layoffs and furloughs in March and April, now as stores are allowed to reopen in certain states, thousands of retail jobs returned.
