Colombian footwear exports grow by 12.3%
According to data released by ACICAM, the Colombian Association of Footwear, Leather and Leather Goods, during the first 5 months of the current fiscal year footwear exports had a two digits growth
According to ACICAM Colombian footwear exports between the months of January and May have reached 11.2 million US dollars, reflecting a 12.3% increase from similar period last year.
The country shipped 776 289 pairs of shoes in the period, growing 23.7%, when compared to the first five months of 2014.
In terms of destination markets four countries concentrate more than two thirds of the total footwear exported by Colombia in the period. Ecuador is the main buyer of Colombian footwear with a share of 36% (4.0 million US dollars), followed at some distance by Chile (16% share; 1.8 million US dollars), United States (10% share; 1.1 million Us dollars) and Panama (9% share; 1.0 million US dollars).
Almost one third of all footwear exported by Colombia has its origin in the region of Bogota (31.3%), which is revealing of the importance of the region for the Colombian footwear industry.
