Cirql unveils new biodegradable midsole solution
OrthoLite subsidiary Cirql launched Cirql Zero, a midsole that meets compostability standards, providing an alternative to traditional materials with wide manufacturing adaptability
“Footwear brands have been searching for a trusted, fully biodegradable midsole material for many years; it is the last piece of the puzzle. After a diligent development and testing process, we can now provide a price-competitive, scalable, industrially compostable and biodegradable midsole component and material solution to our global footwear brand customers”, commented Matt Thwaites, Vice President and General Manager at Cirql.
OrthoLite subsidiary Cirql has introduced a solution addressing footwear materials' production and end-of-life phases. Cirql Zero, a patent-pending biodegradable and industrially compostable midsole foam, was showcased in the “Disappearing Shoe” concept at ISPO Munich. This concept shoe was a finalist for the ISPO BrandNew Award. The company also offers an alternative recyclable solution, rTPU30, with 30% post-consumer recycled content.
The Cirql Zero midsole uses a proprietary polymer compound and supercritical foaming technology. It meets industrial compostability standards, achieving over 90% degradation within 180 days, and can be customized for various footwear categories, including athletic and luxury. Its manufacturing versatility allows integration into existing production processes, enabling scalability to produce hundreds of millions of pairs annually.
“We are very proud to offer our revolutionary midsole solutions. With Cirql rTPU30 and now, Cirql Zero, our team is ready to provide the global footwear industry with trusted, scalable, end-of-life solutions that are much needed by brands to reach their own climate goals”, shared Thwaites.
