China and Pakistan sign milestone leather industry agreement
The Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) and the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) have signed a memorandum of understanding, marking a new chapter in the Sino-Pak leather industry cooperation
Signed at the end of the All China Leather Exhibition in Shanghai, the agreement will help the two associations to deepen their relationship, exchange trade delegations, promote business cooperation and participate in leather industry exhibitions.
It also marks a new chapter in cooperation between the Sino-Pak leather industry, as CLIA had never before signed a contract with its counterparts in Pakistan.
Pakistan’s consul general in Shanghai, Shazhad Ahmad Khan, who was a guest at the ceremony, highlighted the importance of a strong partnership between the leather industries of the two countries. “The leather sector is one of Pakistan’s topmost export-focused industries, and we have a long history of collaboration with China”, he said.
The agreement comes amid wider interaction between China and Pakistan in the leather business. Not only was the China-Pakistan Footwear Industry Expo and B2B Meeting held in Lahore in August, but the CLIA chairman also led a delegation of business leaders to Pakistan in August. Pakistani business leaders are now planning a return visit to China, with meetings in Guangzhou in October.
“I congratulate the two industry associations for opening up this new avenue, and I hope it will take us all a long way”, concluded Khan.
