Caprice acquires Peter Kaiser
The Pirmasens-based footwear manufacturer Caprice has acquired Peter Kaiser, one of Europe’s oldest women’s shoe brands. The company was declared insolvent in 2020
Caprice, which is owned by the German group Wortmann Schuh-Holding KG, stated that it would retain the core of the brand, “which is based on excellent fit and high-quality materials”, but would update the collections and price them more attractively. This move will also enable Caprice to expand its offer range into the upper segment.

“With the Peter Kaiser brand, which is registered in over seventy countries worldwide, we will now also be able to offer this in the upper segment. The lower and the luxury genres are dominated by vertically integrated suppliers. The business that offers the highest potential for those of our retail partners that are not integrated into the vertical network lies between these, which is precisely where Caprice and Peter Kaiser will be positioned,” explained Jürgen Cölsch, the managing director of Caprice Schuhproduktion GmbH & Co. KG.

Created in 1838 and renowned for its “outstanding craftsmanship and incomparable sophistication”, Peter Kaiser was declared insolvent in December 2020. While managing director Stefan Frank and investors Hans-Joachim and Gisela Sander, from the founding family of hair care giant Wella Group, agreed to buy the brand and other assets of Peter Kaiser Schuhfabrik GmbH and Peter Kaiser Retail GmbH, they declined to take over the German production site in Pirmasens.

But Germany’s oldest women’s shoe brand has been given a second chance. “I am pleased to be able to hand over the Peter Kaiser brand to Caprice, and therefore also to the birthplace of Peter Kaiser, where it will have a successful future. With its production and development expertise, Caprice is the ideal umbrella for Peter Kaiser, as it will showcase its products and high standards concerning quality, fit and material at prices that represent excellent value for money,” stated Frank.
