Cambodian garments, footwear and travel goods exports on the rise
In the first eight months of 2024, Cambodian’s exports of garments, footwear and travel goods increased by 22.8% as compared to the same period of last year
According to the data provided by the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia, exports of garments, footwear and travel goods reached 9.2 billion US dollars in the first eight months of the year, up by 22.8% from 7.5 billion US dollars in the same period of 2023.
This sector remains one of the major drivers of the country’s economic growth, pointed out Hoe Ee Khor, chief economist of the ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office.
In particular, garments and textiles exports contributed more than 6.8 billion US dollars to the total eight-month value, an increase of 23% year-on-year from 5.5 billion US dollars, and travel goods exports contributed more than 1.3 billion US dollars, an increase of 20.8% year-on-year from nearly 1.1 billion US dollars.
This was followed by the footwear segment, with exports up by 22% year-on-year to more than 1 billion US dollars. According to the World Footwear 2024 Yearbook, Cambodia has risen to 11th and 9th place in global footwear production and exports, respectively, over the past year.
