Brazilian footwear exports grew in November
According to data released by the Brazilian Shoe Manufacturers Association, footwear exports registered an increase of 4.7% in November in comparison with the previous month. From January to November, sales abroad declined by 11.3% compared to similar period last year
According to Heitor Klein, President of Abicalçados, the Brazilian Footwear Association, this is a planned recovery: "With the dollar at higher levels, footwear can present more competitive prices abroad". Mr. Klein expects the good results to be repeated in December but that will not "save the year industry" since the falls in the first half were deep. "Our strongest expected recovery in exports is expected in 2016", he anticipates.
The data released by Abicalçados indicates a recovery in the US market. In November, the United States acquired the equivalent of 17.32 million US dollars, 8.5% more than in similar period last year. The average price of the products sold to the US also increased from 14.64 US dollars to 17.09 US dollars a pair. "We are selling higher value-added products for our main international market, which is very relevant and should reflect positively on global Brazilian footwear exports", commented Mr. Klein.
The second main destination for Brazilian footwear is still Argentina. The neighbour country hasve bought 4.84 million US dollars’ worth of shoes, 6.6% more than in the same month last year. Between January and November, Argentina bought 7.67 million US dollars of Brazilian counterparts, for which were paid 64.6 million US dollars, 17.7% less than in the same period of 2014.
Bolivia surpassed France and came in third place among the main destinations of Brazilian products. Last month, the Bolivian bought 680 400 pairs and paid 4 million US dollars, 14.6% less than in November 2014. Year to date, the Bolivian bought 6.37 million of Brazilian pairs for 45.94 million US dollars, 7.7% more than last year.
