Bottega Veneta strengthens its footwear business
The Italian luxury label, owned by Kering, hired the Turkish designer and artist Safa Sahin as a consultant footwear designer. The designer himself announced the news on social media
Safa Sahin, who held the position of head sneaker design at Balmain since 2019, shared on Instagram that he was embarking "on a new creative journey" to support the vision of the creative director of the Kering House, Matthieu Blazy, who has been at the helm of style at Bottega Veneta since November 2021.
The Turkish designer is responsible for futuristic and popular shoe designs at Balmain, such as the Unicorn sneaker, recently introduced by Olivier Rousteing, creative director at the French-based Maison, and the leather slippers. Before joining Balmain, Sahin collaborated with Nike for three years.
Safa Sahin, who graduated from a design school specialized in footwear, also studied art in Italy and Turkey at the beginning of his career. Between 2013 and 2016, he launched his shoe brand, joining the ranks of shoe designers of Nike afterwards.
