Bangladesh: leather footwear industry exceeds target
Despite a poor performance for the overall leather industry in the first two months of the new financial year, exports of leather footwear exceeded the target set for the period
According to data released by the Leathergoods & Footwear Manufacturers & Exports Association of Bangladesh made available by the country’s Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), in the first two months of the new financial year, the country's leather industry performed below the target set for the period with 183.00 million US dollars achieved by the sector in the period (189.70 million US dollars set for July-August 2018)
In the first two months of the financial year total leather footwear exports reached 128.78 million US dollars, well above the target set for the period (+27.18%). However, this represented a decline of 1.51% compared to similar period in 2017 (130.8 Million US dollars)
The exports target set for the leather and leather goods sector in Bangladesh for the current financial year is of 1 124 million US dollars (compares to a performance of 1 085.51 million US dollars in achieved in the previous year).
