Artists Fantich & Young create unusual shoes
The art pieces resulting from the duo's work are innovative sculptures using a variety of found objects
Mariana Fantich and Dominic Young are East London based artists and have been working together as Fantich & Young since 2008.
According to the artists: “Fantich & Young's body of work entails a conceptual and aesthetical approach to the sculptural juxtaposition of symbolic ready-made materials (...) work addresses parallels between social evolution and evolution in the natural world: Nature as model or nature as threat”.
A strong element of Darwin's theory of evolution and natural selection combined with elements of supernatural ceremonial ritual are present in the works. In their most recent work they attached individual dentures in various types of footwear giving the impression of shoes that bite.
