Anbessa Shoes moves into a new area
Ethiopia-based footwear company Anbessa Shoes is moving production to a new manufacturing facility in the Ethiopian district of Akaky Kaliti, into an area reserved for the leather industry
With this new project the company expects to increase its production capacity from the 3 500 pairs of shoes currently manufactured on a daily basis to 10 000 pairs of shoes. However, this uplift won’t happen straightway. In the first year, production is expected to reach 6 000 pairs a day, with the company focusing, in parallel, on training of staff with the support of the Leather Industry Development Institute (LIDI). This entity, established in 2010, is working on support to the industry in the areas of research, training, consultancy, quality control and laboratory testing.
In fact, the company, currently counting with 1 200 employees, is planning to reinforce its labour force, and uplifting the skills workers with trainnig.
The factory exports its products to different countries in Asia, Europe, US and Africa. During the last fiscal year, exports have reached something like 750 000 dollars.
