adidas unveils new biodegradable footwear
The Germany-based sportswear giant continues its focus on sustainability and now has presented its Futurecraft Biofabric shoe, which will be biodegradable
To develop the new product, Which will make use of silk biopolymers creating a replica spidersilk fabric adidas partnered with German biotec company AMSilk.
The fibers are highly soft, smooth, breathable and vegan. A protectant against bacterial growth on the surface of the fabric is also included.
The new concept shoe was unveiled at the Biofabricate Conference in New York. The prototype features an upper made from 100-percent Biosteel fiber. Lighter properties and the potential to be the strongest fully natural material available create potential to a high perfroamnce product.
