Mizuno's Innovation Centre in full swing
After three years since the announcement of the investment, the Osaka-based sportswear company reported that its Innovation Centre, called Mizuno Engine, is now operating
Located on the premises of the company's Osaka headquarters, in Japan, the facility, whose investment stood at about 5 billion yen, will enable the company to speed product development. For that purpose, the Centre has a space for measuring, manufacturing, and testing of all company's prototypes, and includes a sewing room, adhesive/painting room, 3D workshop, an environmental test room, an impact test room, a gymnasium, a track, artificial turf, as well as other spaces for testing and finalizing products in development.
"By developing a wide variety of products such as footwear, apparel, and equipment simultaneously in a single facility, Mizuno expects to integrate technologies such as utilizing equipment development techniques for footwear. The trial-and-error cycle, such as sample prototyping and verification, can be performed in a shorter time which will lead to faster research and development", highlighted the company.
Furthermore, the company intends the Centre to be a place where innovation is created through collaboration. Therefore, Mizuno Engine is also equipped with several social spaces which will allow its employees to "meet and actively exchange knowledge and opinions, share ideas, and transform ideas among themselves".
