Crocs to deliver shoes using drones

Feb 23, 2015 Japan

Shoe maker Crocs has announced a new temporary store in Tokyo, due to be open in March, where drones will be used to carry the shoes directly to customers. An innovative initiative in the footwear industry

Customers will have the ability to use an iPad to place orders, according to Crocs, and a drone will then take off and pick up a pair. The delivery will occur on the spot where the customer is standing.

Crocs hasn’t decided whether to use magnets or hooks to carry the products.

The drones were designed from scratch for this initiative and will have the ability to carry up to 600 grams. About 80 shoes will be displayed on a special stand, with 5 meters high and 10 meters wide.

The pop up store using drones will be open from the 5th to the 8th March at Tokyo Midtown mall in Akasaka.
