Leather exports slowdown in Bangladesh
According to data released by the Export Promotion Bureau in Bangladesh, sales abroad of leather products in the period July - December have represented 97.7% of the target established for the period
The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) estimates that in the first six months of the current fiscal year (July 2015 - December 2015) leather footwear exports totaled 252.04 million US dollars, which compares to a target for the period of 260.47 million US dollars. This positions exports of leather footwear at a level of 96.8% of the target for the period.
Exports of leather and leather products exports reached 97.7% of the target set for the period; however, the categories performed differently. While leather exports were quite below the target for the period, achieving only 70.0% of the target, leather products have reached 142.1% of the target for the period.
Compared to similar period in the previous fiscal year, exports of leather and leather products were down by 2.05%. Leather footwear exports in the period were stable (+0.22% compared to similar period in the previous year). Leather exports were down by 37.47%, and sales abroad of leather products increased by 60.68%.
